The meeting of the COST Action

Today we’ve continued the meeting of the COST Action ‘Regaining linkage? Digital technologies improving civic engagement, political organisations and democracy (RELINK²)”, hosted by the Institute of Political Science at the University of Wroclaw. More than 60 researchers and invited guests from 29 countries discussed topics related to artificial intelligence and its potential for civic and political engagement, digital literacy in democracy, and the digitisation of political organisations. One of the most important parts of the event was a panel discussion entitled ‘AI: opportunities and challenges for civic and political engagement’.

During the panel, participants debated over digital transformation and democratic innovations. Key takeways include the importance of inclusive research, transparent use of AI in e-participation, and greater involvement of citizens in decision-making processes. The need to ensure broad access to AI, while maintaining privacy and security of access, was also emphasised.

AI is increasingly present in public life. Participants agreed that we should aim for a state where AI supports human creativity and decision-making, rather than replacing it, which will help maintain trust in democratic systems.
